Untangling

I have been working on this personal project for almost a year off and on between commissions and recovering from surgery. It represents working through old trauma.

The finished piece.

I knew I wanted to do a different kind of mermaid and have them in a pond. This was an early mockup I did using Blender to build a 3D pond that I did sketching over top. At this stage I was thinking about an octopus mermaid.

I did more mermaid sketches to find a feel I liked for the character design. I liked the more froggish feel of bumpy ears and kelp-like hair.

This was the initial sketch I did for the final piece.
